South Hills in January

South Hills is now covered with a thin layer of green and the beginning of a lovely pageant of wild flowers.  The four of us started our hike at 9:15 am from the trailhead on Woodbridge Drive. We first climbed to the top of Cheapskate Hill, and then down the northside and around the south end back through the draw to our starting point. Two miles pasted quickly and we shared hiking stories along the way. There was a lot of bird activity and the weather was a sunny 65 degrees with very little wind.  Along the way we pointed out many wild flowers, including a treasured Chocolate Lily.  Buttercups, poppies, lupine, bright yellow redwood violets, vetch, and Morro milk pods were abundant along the trial.  The Serpentine rock base of the mountain reflected in the bright sun. Looking forward to more hikes and spring like weather although it’s only the end of January!  ...
