May 2, 2015  Irish Hills out to Morro View

Our hike started out at the Madonna trail head with a covering of fog overhead.  Seven humans and 2 dogs showed up for the hike.  We headed up the Mariposa trail, and it is up, through the oak and poison oak and along a currently dry creek bed.  Crossed over several well-maintained bridges.  There is still a small amount of running water under one of them.  And up we went.  The farther we went the more the fog burned off.  No spectacular plant finds, but we did come across very large tom turkey.  He crossed the trail in front of us and continued to let his presence be known with loud gobbling!  It is 2+ miles out to the bench at Morro View.  We had a short rest there and were able to just see Morro Rock through the marine layer.  Down we went, a little faster than we went up.  We didn’t see our turkey friend again, however, he made sure we knew we were in his territory once again.  A very pleasant outing with good companions.  Another great day to be outdoors.
