Mary CiesinskiExecutive Director of ECOSLO, is a motivated nonprofit professional with business background and experience in the tech industry.  She is passionate about bringing sustainable organizational practices to nonprofits, elevating them to new levels of community engagement, which allows for operational growth in programs, services, and volunteer needs.  Mary has a life-long love for and dedication to the environment, our collective home.  When not working at ECOSLO, Mary can be found relaxing at the beach, enjoying a backyard bonfire with friends, or caring for her gardens of veggies, roses, and succulents.

AmeriCorps Volunteer Infrastructure Program (VIP) Fellow

Eden Knapp, AmeriCorps Volunteer Infrastructure Program (VIP) Fellow 2019-2020 for ECOSLO, is serving her second year in the AmeriCorps program, but her first year with ECOSLO.  She grew up in Huntington Beach, CA and moved to San Luis Obispo in 2013 to attend Cal Poly.  Eden graduated from Cal Poly in 2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Anthropology & Geography and has been living in the area ever since.  She spent most of her childhood camping and backpacking all over California, Oregon, and Nevada so she is very excited to have the opportunity to give back to the environment.  When not serving through ECOSLO, Eden can be found roller skating or visiting a local movie theater.

Sustainability Assistant

Anna Talken, Sustainability Assistant for ECOSLO, is originally from the Bay Area and moved to San Luis Obispo to attend Cal Poly.  She graduated in 2019 with a degree in Biology and a focus in Marine Science. Spending a majority of her free time traveling and exploring the outdoors, she has always had a passion for protecting the environment and incorporating sustainability into all aspects of her life. Anna is excited to join ECOSLO as the Sustainability Assistant and to help promote sustainability within the SLO County community in an effort to protect the special Central Coast environment. When not working at ECOSLO, she can usually be found in the ocean (surfing or diving), hiking, making things, or camping in Big Sur—her favorite place in California.

Program Assistant

Jess Villalon, Program Assistant for ECOSLO, is originally from the east coast and moved to San Luis Obispo in 2015.  She is passionate about nature, animals, and educating people on awareness for the environment and how impactful our own actions can be.  In her free time, Jess can be found at a local yoga studio or hiking along one of the many trails in SLO County with her furry companion, Willow dog.


Nicole Sisneros

A California native, but a SLO transplant, Nicole moved to the area in July of 2013. Her passion for conservancy began during her childhood when she started writing letters to then-President Reagan regarding water recycling. Looking for ways to be involved in the community she calls home, Nicole joined the ECOSLO board in July 2018.

Andrea is the former Social Media Strategist Intern and current Marketing Committee Chair for ECOSLO. Her interest lies in increasing environmental awareness and community via digital media and valuable time spent outdoors. You can find her at a trail head after work or enjoying the dog beach on the weekends!


Chris Hamma

Secretary & SLO Stewards docent

Chris is a longtime outdoorsman who grew up in San Diego County and has lived in SLO County for nearly 15 years. In addition to obtaining BS and MS degrees in Natural Resources Management from Cal Poly SLO, he has worked for and volunteered with the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, SLO County Parks, and UC Berkeley Forestry, as well as spent several years working in the hotels and restaurants in Yosemite. Chris has served as a SLO Stewards docent with ECOSLO since 2015 and joined the Board of Directors in December 2017.


Melissa Danehey

Melissa is a nonprofit professional and native North Carolinian, whose love for the California coast drew her here in 2014. She has a BS in Animal Science/Nutrition and Masters in Nutritional Sciences. Her passion for local environment grew over the years after discovering her love for running, surfing, and paddle boarding. In her spare time, Melissa also competes in ultra marathons, plays piano, and spends time with her teenage daughter and two dogs. She is also a foster/resource parent and a Big Sister.


Ayla-Louise Mateo

Ayla-Louise Mateo


Born in Trabzon, Turkey and living overseas while growing up, Ayla-Louise has always been a worldly person, and when she came to Cal Poly in 2007 for a bachelor’s in landscape architecture, she fell for San Luis Obispo. As a licensed landscape architect, lecturer at Cal Poly, and a student earning a master’s in city and regional planning, she has found her niche in the environment. When she does not have her head stuck in a book, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two small dogs hiking around San Luis Obispo, traveling, playing the flute, and baking. Ayla-Louise joined the board in May 2020.
